Father’s Day June 18, 2017

Welcome to worship with Mayville Lutheran Church!

We are a spiritual community called by God into being.

Casting a new vision to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus. Care, Aware, Share, Together.

“We are one body in Christ, seeking life, growth, and renewal, gifted by God to serve all creation.”

If you would like to know more about us or want to share your information with us, the Welcome Pad at the end of the pew is available, or talk to a member here.

Welcome and Announcements

As you are able, please stand.

In the name of the Father, in the name of the Father, in the name of the Son, in the name of the Son, in the name of the Spirit, in the name of the Spirit, God the three in one, God the three in one.

Confession & Forgiveness

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Almighty God, all hearts are open to you, all desires known to you, and no secrets are ever hidden from you. We come to you confessing our sins; with our brokenness, our failures, our selfish pride, and indifference. Create in us a clean heart by the power of your Holy Spirit. Inspire our speech and guide our actions to share the perfect love you have shown to us through your Son our Savior, Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Friends in Christ, in the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was sent to free us from our sin. For his sake, God forgives you all your sins and offers you a new beginning and a fresh start. May almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit strengthen you that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. Amen.

SONG: “Welcome Child of God” (Tune of #543 “Go, My Children, with My Blessing”)

Raindrops, oceans, lakes and rivers: welcome child of God.

Mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters: welcome child of God.

When the world feels wide and around you, when the dark of night surrounds you,

We are here to tend and guide you. Welcome child of God.

One: The Lord be with you.

All:  And also with you.

Prayer of the Day

Lord Jesus, make us worthy, with your invitation and gift of grace, to receive your body and blood through the meal of bread and wine offered from your table. Amen.

First REading:  Matthew 26:26-30 pew Bible p.808

The Institution of the Lord’s Supper

26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

30 When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Second REading:  1Corinthians 11:23-25 pew Bible p.933

The Institution of the Lord’s Supper

23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Word of God, Word of life.

Thanks be to God.

As you are able, please stand.

Gospel Acclamation: ELW p.151

Gospel Announcement:

The Holy Gospel for today is according to Luke the 24th chapter.

Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospel ReadingLuke 24:28-35 pew Bible p.861

28 As they came near the village to which they were going, Jesus walked ahead as if he were going on. 29 But the disciples urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So, he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” 33 That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. 34 They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Please Join us every Tuesday in

June at 7:00pm at MLC

Everyone is invited to join Pastor Keith as he walks through and discusses the topic of death and dying through video, prayer and small group discussions

The Gift of Life: Death & Dying, Life & Living offers a vision of hope and a view of reality that counter the cultural norms that view death as a tragedy, or the end of living, or an entry into harsh judgment and retribution.  Fr. Keating focuses on the transformative process of death and dying as part of, rather than the end of, life’s journey.      June 20th   June 27th
